Looking Back

Thank you to all of you who shared my Olympic experiences with me by reading this blog, and a special thank you to those of you who commented on it, using the blog, Facebook or E-mail. It will be a great keepsake but I was also inspired to write knowing that family and friends were sharing in our experience.
I hope to add photos when Iain arrives with our camera, this weekend, and am also supplementing my memories with newspaper articles and photos. NOTE: Virtue and Moir's photo graces the front conver of the March 8th addition of Macleans magazine and there is an excellent article on them on the inside!

When Vancouver was announced as the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics, 7 years ago, Iain said we are going! Thank you so very much to my dear hubby for making this Olympic experience possible for both of us. Son Jamie, being the sports fanatic that he is, and fiancee Karen, also have been saving their pennies, for a long time, so they could make their Olympic dream come true. Colin's new job in Calgary made it possible for him to attend and he took some of his precious few days off so he could live the experience too. Iain and I and treasured this special time with the three of them.
We did miss Graeme and Caileigh very much! They were living the experience, watching the TV at home - Graeme with his roommates and girlfriend, Laura, in St. Catharines and Caileigh, with niece Lindsay,in Ancaster.
I kept close touch with them, through texting, and with many of my family members. Jamie liked to tease me about always having my cell in my hand,(and even has an incriminating photo of me) but it allowed me to have the other people I love close at hand as they watched the events on TV.

The Olympic Moments that really touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes:
The first gold medal winner, Alex Bilodeau, and his brother.
Virtue and Moir's gold medal performances made even more special by our personal family connection to them.
Joannie Rochette's bronze medal performances so soon after her Mom's sudden death.
Sidney Crosby's game winning Gold to capture the gold for Canada's men's hockey team.
From the time we arrived, on Thursday Feb. 18th until we left on Sunday Feb. 28th, Iain and I witnessed 2 Gold Medal performances (Virtue and Moir and the men's Team Pursuit Speed Skating team) and were in Vancouver for 20 other Canadian medal wins - WOW!

The spontaneous singing of our beautiful national anthem, on so many occasions, also brought tears to my eyes. I am so proud to be a Canadian and so are many other Canadians, as we witnessed in Vancouver, around Canada and around the world! These Olympics games brought our country and cultures together, like nothing else I have ever seen before. We cheered, chanted, laughed, cried, sang waved our flags and 'highfived' all together all week!
Thank you Vancouver, to all your wonderful volunteers and to all our talented athletes, who made this all possible for all of us whether we were there or watching at home on our television sets! A truly uplifting, memorable and cherished experience!
GO CANADA GO!

Day 10 - Sunday Feb. 28th - On our way home.

Iain, Jamie, Karen, Colin and I enjoyed our last delicious breakfast at The Manor House B&B courtesy of chef Jason who invited us into his kitchen every morning to watch him prepare his specialities. Thank you so much to him, manager David and their friendly, happy staff who were run of their feet for 2 weeks!
We also said goodbye (thankfully) to the family above us whose children woke us every morning, at 5:30 am, with their running around, jumping off the beds and fighting! :-)
We packed up and took the wonderful 'Canada' Subway Transit line right to the airport to catch our 10:00am flight to Calgary. What a feeling of anticipation there was at the airport as everyone was anxiously awaiting the start of the Canada/US Gold Medal Hockey Game. Thankfully, our flight was on time and we arrived back at Iain's condo, just in time for the opening face off.
I think we can all agree that a better script could not have been written for this game. The US tie it, at 2, with just seconds left, to take away Canada's hope for grabbing the Gold, at the end of regulation time. The country's frazzled nerves time is extended. Then, in overtime, the veteran Iginla passes the puck to 'Sid the Kid', Canada's best, and in it goes through the legs of the impenetrable Miller! As announcer Chris Cuthberts says 'The Golden Goal' for Canada is a reality and Team Canada wins Canada's record breaking 14th Gold Medal! As Canadians celebrate at Canada Hockey Place, and all over the country in our homes, in bars, on the streets,(Yonge Street is closed down) we know we will always remember where we were for this historic hockey moment! It was most definitely the fairy tale ending to our most memorable and awesome Olympic vacation!
My selection for other standout Canadian players - Nash, Morrow, and Toews! The future looks bright!

Jamie. Karen and I fly back to Hamilton, at 6:20 pm, but not before we take a drive, with Iain and Colin, down Calgary's 'Red Mile,' to celebrate with the rest of the city!

Day 9 - Saturday Feb. 27th

Men's and Ladies' Speed Skating Team Pursuit Finals(both) - 12 noon
Sue, Iain and Colin
Iain and I witness our second gold medal performance (Virtue and Moir our first) and Colin his first as we watch our men win gold!
Our women place fifth but have a better time than the gold medal winner from Germany. Doesn't seem fair but that is just how the event is set up.

This was our first time at the Richmond Oval and it is an absolutely awesome facility! The media camera used to film the skating is like something out of Star Wars! It moves around the oval as fast as the skaters. Unlike the other sports we have seen, the commentators explain what is going on, over the speaker system, while you are watching the event.

Jamie and Karen visit Jamie's friend Matt Theoret, from his public school days, in Brights Grove/Sarnia and Matt's fiancee Laura.
Later in the day they join Jamie's Masters' friends from the University of Windsor who are now working or doing their PhD's in BC.

Jamie and Karen decide to try and scalp tickets for the Gold Medal Curling Game, at 3 pm, using their long saved Olympic funds but tickets are scarce. Instead, they take in Kevin Martin and team's Gold Medal win on the TV at our B&B!
Norwegian skip still handsome but can't out curl 'K-Mart!'
Take note Theresa, Johnny Mo has been deemed the 'Brad Pitt' of curling this week! :-)
Switzerland defeats my 'blond Swede' to win Bronze.

Men's Hockey Bronze Medal Game - Sue, Iain and Colin
A great game with the Finns fighting back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Slovaks 4-3, to win the Bronze
Great warm up for tomorrow's Gold Medal contest!
Take in Robson Square and the downtown crowds for one last time,in the rain, before going home. However, no ones spirits are dampened by the weather! We also visit Canada House for the first time on a rare 'no lineup' occasion.

We had hoped to visit more displays, exhibits and Olympic Buildings, while we were here, but our jammed packed Event Itinerary (we were so lucky to get the tickets we did!) and the long lineups to get into things (7 hours wait to get into The Mint display) prevented us from doing this. There were even 4-5 hour lineups to get into The Bay to purchase Olympic merchandise! Glad we already had ours!

Day 8 - Friday Feb. 26th

Men's Semi Final Hockey Game - USA vs Finland - Colin, Iain and Sue
Much to our chagrin, the US manhandles the Finns in the first period
Final score - 6-1

Men's and Women's Speed Skating Team Pursuit Qualifying - Jamie and Karen
Richmond Oval - first time at this venue.

After our events were complete, we headed downtown to camp out at 'Moxies' for what ended up being 6 hours! Lots of food and drink....and more drinks and food...lots of cheering with other patrons and sweat and frazzled nerves...we saw Cheryl Bernard and her curling team take silver in Women's Curling and the Canadian Men's Hockey Team eek out a victory over the Slovaks 3-2 (they were leading 3-0 at one point) to advance to the Gold Medal Game.
While we were happy for Cheryl's Silver we were also extremely disappointed for her as she missed her last shot in the 10th end (Sweden score 2 to tie) and her last shot in the extra end (Sweden steals 1 to win) - very routine shots for her normally, but then again, the Olympic games are not 'routine'!
Canada's Men will have to play better against the US.

On our way home, we walked amongst the dense cheering, 'high-fiving' crowds, up Robson Street, to see the flame for the first time and take lots of photos - beautiful at night. All week, we have heard the frequent spontaneous singing of our National Anthem, and on this night, it was happening everywhere we walked! So proud to be a Canadian and that Canadian pride has been so evident all week and a thrill to witness and be a part of!

Two Gold Medals and a bronze in Men's Short Track on this night too!

Day 7 - Thursday Feb. 25th

Women's Bronze Medal Hockey Game - Iain and Colin
Finland takes the Bronze Medal

Women's Semi Final Curling - Jamie and Karen
Canada defeats Switzerland and Sweden defeats China

Men's Semi Final Curling - Colin, Iain and Sue
Canada defeats Sweden and Norway defeats Switzerland

Victory Ceremony Featuring Burton Cummings (Manitoba Night)
Great night of 'Guess Who' Rock an Roll!
Saw Canada's Women's Short Track Relay team presented with their Silver Medals live, and our Bobsleigh Ladies presented with their Gold and Silver Medals from Whistler.
As Iain and I were dancing to 'American Woman', (much to Colin's embarrassment) we watched, on the TV's, as Canada's brave and courageous Joannie Rochette skate to Bronze Medal in Women's Figure Skating. We really hope she carries the flag for Canada in the Closing Ceremonies!

Our Canadian ladies continue to rock with the Women's Hockey Team defeating USA for the Gold Medal 2-0! Excellent goal tending and 2 goals by 2 Canadian rookies - future looks mighty good!

Doesn't seem I can go a day without mentioning curling.
These are Olympic Crowds not your typical curling crowds and ediquette has gone right out the window. However, everyone, curlers and fans alike are loving it! The 'wave' is a regular occurrence and it is not unusual for the fans to chant when the opposing teams' curlers are throwing their rocks.
Our favourite cheer - the Swiss fans jumping up and down and chanting 'Hopp Suisse.'Norways Pants' another popular cheer and two of their fans were dressed in 2 piece suite made out of the same material as the infamous pants.
On this day I was enjoying the view of 'my Norwegian skip' and the 'blond and beautiful' Swedish skip!
I sense there are alot of converted curling fans and Vernon Davis, a rather large NFL player, was at most games, and was interviewed saying he loves curling!

After the Victory Ceremonies, Iain took the five of us to dinner, complete with singing waiter, at a very popular Italian restaurant downtown, 'Don Francescos.' Food was delicious and lots of sporting celebrities around. Jamie saw the Russian hockey coach, Bykov and Ottavio Cinquanta, president of ISU Figure Skating and member of the International Olympic committee was sitting two table over from us. Our waiter was telling us that the Russian hockey team came here to drown their sorrows, with vodka, after losing to Canada. He also said that Federov had rented a whole floor, at the Sutton Place across the street, for 10 days, at $10,000.00 a night and he was only there for 2 nights. Oh, how the other half lives.
There are alot of Russians in Vancouver this week as they are hosting the next Winter Olympics in 2014.

Day 6 - Wednesday Feb. 24th

Men's Quarter Final Hockey - Canada vs. Russia - 4:30 pm
How lucky are we!
Jamie and Karen joining us.

Victory Ceremony featuring INXS - great performance!
Jamie and Karen there too!

Colin arrives from Calgary!

I have had E-mail and Facebook message from many of you.
So glad you are enjoying the blog. I am having fun writing it and it will make a great keepsake!
Thanks so much for your messages - I love receiving them.

I must admit I have been feeling a bit guilty not participating in my CardioCore Bootcamp classes (little plug for my instructor and friend Tracy) particularly since I've been enjoying some good food and drink! However, never fear Tracy, the amount of walking we've been doing, up hill and down hill, up stairs and down stairs, is making up for my missed classes....I hope!
We are walking to as many venues as we can and use the excellent transit system when necessary. The weather has certainly been conducive to this. What is surprising though is the amount of walking you do once you get to the venue. For security reasons, and security screening purposes, there is only one entrance and one exit, into all the venues which means long lines and long walks, up and down stairs, to just a few sets of entrance doors. Oh well, it's all part of the experience!

This was an extra special Olympic day for many reasons.
The first reason is the wonderful visit Iain and I, Jamie and Karen had, over lunch, with good friends Sue McLean and Vic Johnston. Sue has been a friend of mine, since our first year at Queen's, many moons ago, and she and I lived together, in 4th year, with one other Sue (boy, did we give people a hard time when they phoned the house asking for Sue) and our dear friend Linda Hume Moore, who had to put up with alot living with 3 Sues (and Iain too, on occasion!)
Vancouver is Sue and Vic's home and it was so good to reconnect! We hope to have more visits when we move to Calgary!

What a day it was for Canadian Women Olympic Athletes, with a bronze in speed skating, a gold and silver for our bobsled teams and a silver in short track relay! Perhaps these women used Joannie Rochette's inspirational and courageous skate,(her best score ever for that short program) the day before, as their motivation. All I can say is WOW! I am confident Joannie will skate again like that tonight, for the long program, and win a medal for her Mom, who is watching over her from above. What a role model she is for our girls....for all of us!
I'm confident our Canadian women's Hockey Team will keep the 'Canadian Girl Power' going and win the Gold today, over the US.

AND, last but certainly not least, how about Canada's Men's Hockey win over OV and the Russians - absolute domination in all facets of the game and it started from the opening face off! I have never seen any Canadian team..any team for that matter,.... play a more complete game of hockey,as a team;every play executed perfectly,as a team! We did not expect a 7-3 final score. It was pure magic and another Olympic Moment for me!

BTW, I have mentioned the enthusiastic cheering and cheers from Canadians and all the different countries. However, the 'Eh Oh Canada GO' cheer is non existent...thank heavens. I guess there are more people, than just my family, that think it is terrible! :-)

Day 5 - Tuesday Feb. 23rd

Women's Curling - Canada vs GB - 9:00 am

Jamie and Karen - Men's Curling - Canada vs China

Men's Hockey - Canada vs Germany (qualification game) - 4:30 pm A game Canada was not supposed to be playing but had to because of their loss to the US.

Men's Hockey - Slovakia vs Norway - 9:00 pm
Jamie and Karen also at this game

Our first day of rain in Vancouver but no one was complaining because we have been enjoying absolutely gorgeous spring weather. (as Ancaster suffers through their first winter storm of the season). The cherry blossoms are even coming out on the trees lining the streets!

Our host was referring to Vancouver as 'Funcouver' and I'm beginning to realize why. On many occasions, we have caught a whiff of the 'wacky tabacky' walking the downtown streets at night and even in residential areas. On this morning, as we walked through a lovely residential area which surrounds the Vancouver Olympic Centre, home of the curling, 'mary jane' was in the air and it was only 8:30 am!
As we were standing in a long line (I use this word alot) the volunteer announcer asked how many curlers were in the lineup. There must have been close to 500 people in line and Iain and I were the only ones to admit we were curlers! That is what the Olympics are all about - people experiencing different sports that they have never experienced before - and the venue was packed as usual with very vocal supporters form all the different countries and there was even a male fan without a shirt, with 'maple leafs' all over his chest and back and bike shorts! Wow, they don't even allow jeans at Dundas Valley Curling Club! I particularly liked the Japanese cheer!
Cheryl Bernard squeaked out a victory, over those Scots form GB, in an extra end.
Speaking of Cheryl, my brother Will has a huge crush on her, and brother Jamie has commented on the fitness of the women curlers and how they are a pleasure to watch (and I don't think he was referring to their curling skills! :-) )
I would also like to say that the days of the cigarette smoking, paunchy men curlers have gone and I am quite enjoying the fitness level of the men! My favourite is the Norwegian skip...from the waist up - could do without those pants.
My friend Theresa, is quite partial to John Morris (nothing is sacred in this blog!)

Okay, since I'm on the topic of curling, a couple of other stories.
A class of school children sat behind us during this morning draw. The class was very mixed, culturally (mostly Asian and Indian;no WASPS at all) but they seemed to know quite a bit about the game. Iain gave them his giant Canadian flag to wave and his 'foamhead' maple leaf' to wear which sat quite nicely atop the headwear of the little Sikh boy!
At breakfast, this morning, an American woman was commenting on the fact that she had the 'dregs' of the Olympic tickets and proceeded to say that these tickets were to the curling events. I could literally see the hair on Iain's back stand up and the look on his face told the whole story!

Enough about curling....
The Canada Germany hockey game was everything we hoped it would be with Canada dominating, particularly in the second and third periods. The crowd was 'red and rockin' and halfway through the third, the strains of 'We want Russia' could be heard loud and clear.
The tiny, feisty and very skilled Norwegians gave the Slovaks a run for their money - final score - 4-3. I particularly liked#48 on Norway...I think Norway is my new favourite country (refer back to comment about the Norwegian skip!) No Norseman for me though because I have my Scotsman! (and yes, Barbie, you have your Finn!) Have you seen the Bell commercial with Scotsman in his kilt bending over to pick something up??! :-)

Day 4

Monday Feb, 22nd

Another mild and sunny day in Vancouver.
At this time last year, Vancouverites were in the middle of one of the coldest, snowiest winters they'd had in a while.

Women's Hockey - US vs Sweden - 12 noon
Figure Skating - Free Dance - 4:45 pm

Jamie and Karen - Women's Hockey - Canada vs Finland

GOLD MEDAL DAY FOR SCOTT MOIR , from Ilderton ON AND TESSA VIRTUE,from London ON. Youngest dancers to ever win a Gold Medal and only North Americans to ever win a Gold in Dance!

Iain and I saw the US beat Sweden very handily to advance to the Gold Medal round in Women's hockey. The American women are very fast and very skilled, but so are our Canadians and Jamie and Karen cheered them on as they beat Finland to advance to the Gold Medal round.

Before hopping the bus to the Pacific Coliseum again, for the Free Dance, Iain and I lined up (there are those words again) for a Vancouver 'must have' - the JAPADOG - the Japanese version of the hotdog, bratwurst, whatever. They were well worth the 45 minute wait and came complete with seaweed and other delicious Japanese toppings!
Up0n arrival at the arena, we met up with Alma and Joe,sons Danny and girlfriend Tessa (no not Scott's Tessa),son Charlie and wife Nicole, cousins Cara and Phil and other family friends, for our preskate glass of wine..... again! As the event began I hugged Alma and the tears started to flow....were we really here to watch her son compete for Olympic Gold?! Through my tears I said to her 'nobody is going to beat Scottie tonight'! I was wearing the 'I am right' T-shirt this time!
We witnessed, in person, another magical, flawless performance by a couple of kids who skate as one and have a connection that is rare! I knew when Scott jumped on the blue cushions, after their skate, that he knew they had won Gold!
This was Iain's and my OLYMPIC MOMENT which was made only more special by the text Alma sent me after their skate - 'I'm so glad you were here to share this with us'! I was also able to share the magical moment with my kids, my Mom and brothers, who are also very close to the family, as we texted back and forth! What did we ever do before cell phones??!!
After lots of hugs and tears, in the concourse afterwards, the family was whisked away to CTV for their interviews and then on to a Skate Canada reception. We have not seen Scott yet, or his Gold Medal but hope this happens before we leave.
Iain and I celebrated solo at another great restaurant, 'The Cactus Cafe' and toasted the Gold Medal Couple many times with more good red wine,(seems to also be a recurring theme) as we watched the repeated TV converage over and over again!
BTW, did anyone notice the cool 'Canada' glasses Scott's brother Danny was wearing? I guess they were all over the TV. Iain and I gave a few pairs of those to the family.

Day 3 again

Sunday Feb. 21st

Iain warned me that I wouldn't have alot of time to do my blog and I guess he's right (and wearing his 'I'm right' T-shirt).Oh well, I have some 'spare' time in between our 3 events today so I will comment on Days 3 and 4 all in one go!

Thankyou to those of you who are following along and have commented on Facebook or by E-mail. Iain's Mum is having difficulty posting a comment - anyone else?

I posted our itinerary for Day 3 on my last posting so will just fill you in on some of the details.
It was another gorgeous day in Vancouver and Iain and I spent the morning on Granville Island with it's unique shops, restaurants, art galleries etc. We lined up for the best fish and chips in Vancouver(Ihad the scallops) at 'Go Fish' a small outdoor restaurant surrounded by beautiful condos, which border the marina and all its lovely boats...did I mention retiring in this area?! Speaking of line ups, we are lining up for everything in Vancouver. n most cases, they move quickly and you meet alot of great people in line from all over the world.
We sat outside to eat and soaked in the sun before making our way to the ferry (another lineup) back over to the City Centre. We walked through the hub of Olympic activity, Robson Square, to find the bus we needed to take to the figure skating venue, the only one of our venues that takes a while to get to.
Another little aside - we met a lovely couple, who were originally from Port Dover, on the ferry. In the washroom lineup, at the Pacific Coliseum, the lady in front of me was from Port Dover too and the two had no connection to each other - what a small world!
Our first destination, once inside the arena, was to meet Alma and Joe Moir, Scott Moir's parents, for a much needed calming glass of wine (or two) before the Original Dance Event - the first of 2 absolutely magical performance by this so very talented, very connected pair. After, Scott and Tessa had completed their 'tango' Scott mouthed 'Oh Baby' and I knew from the look on his face that he was going to be unbeatable!
We had to leave quickly so as to make it back downtown for the Sweden/Finland hockey game . We chose to take a taxi instead of the public transit but this decision was probably not the best as the bus system is much more organized than the taxi system. We did make it to the game, just in time, and arrived to a very loud arena once again. The rivalry between the Swedes and the Finns is almost as intense as the Canada/US rivalry. Caileigh is quite partial to Swedish guys, ever since her time in Sweden last May, so Iain took some photos of some Swedish supporters just for her!
Sweden has a very strong hockey team and handled the Finns easily.

Day 3 - Feb. 21 2010

Figure Skating Original Dance - 4:15 pm
Jamie and Karen - Men's Bobsled at Whistler

Men's Hockey - Sweden vs Finland- 9:00 pm

Another gorgeous day in Vancouver.
Okay, retirement here is looking pretty good! :-)

After enjoying another delicious breakfast, at our B&B, I've decided to post some of our 'sport celebrity' sightings and other interesting 'human interest' tidbits.

Iain is trying to be like my brother David by introducing himself and talking to anybody he recognizes! At the curling venue he spoke to John Morris' (Canada's 3rd) Dad and Mom, the US Skip's Mom and the GB's Skip's Dad - oh, what a wonderful Scottish brogue he had!
As we were walking out of the Italian restaurant last night, Pat Quinn walked in and we struck up a conversation with him. He is such a gentle, friendly and warm man!

Funny Iain/Dad story (I should have lots of these by the end of the games!)
We walked by a Greenpeace supporter, on the street, who was asking for donations. Iain looked her straight in the eyes and bellowed 'Exxon Mobil' with a big smile on his face! If looks could kill, Iain would be dead! :-)

We are wearing our 'Virtue and Moir' T-shirts today for the Original Dance Event.
I have a very personal connection with Scott Moir. I am a long time friend of his Mom Alma and her twin sister Carol. We skated together for years, summer and winter, at the Ilderton Skating Club north of London. Scott is the same age as my Colin and his beautiful smile is courtesy of my Dad, who was their family dentist! He and Tessa are the best dancers in the world!

Trying to figure out how to load photos on the blog.
Don't think we have the correct connection cord to do so.....

Day 1 and 2

Day 1 Events Friday Feb. 19th 2010

Men's Curling - 2:00pm

Men's Hockey Finland vs Germany - 9:00 pm

Day 2 Events Saturday Feb. 20th

Men's Curling - 9:00 am
Jamie and Karen - Women's Super G at Whistler

Men's Hockey- Germany vs Belarus - 9:00 pm.

Finally having an opportunity to make my first entry in our blog before heading off to dinner and the hockey game this evening.

From the moment Iain and I, Jamie and Karen stepped off the airplane we have experienced the electrifying buzz and the sea of red and white that is Vancouver during these Olympic games. The excitement is infectious and there is a party going on everywhere you go!

We are staying in a lovely old home, in a beautiful older area of Vancouver, south of City Hall and one subway stop away from Olympic Village. Our weather has been absolutely magnificent with the sun shining and the temperatures being above normal for this time of year. As we walk to our transit stop the magnificent mountains are right in front of us and the red and white tulips are blooming around City Hall.

Before heading to our first event yesterday, The four us wandered the downtown streets of Vancouver, passed the Olympic Village, BC Place to Robson Street, the heart of alot of the outdoor and indoor activities. Upon our arrival at the Vancouver Olympic Centre, the sight for all the curling, we were greeted by lots of outdoor entertainment which included some highschool aged Highland Dancers, doing the 'sword dance' using hockey sticks....of course!

The curling venue was unusually loud, with lots of chanting from all the countries' fans particularly Canada, the USA and Switzerland. We saw Kevin Martin and his rink dominate and beat Denmark 10-4 in 6 ends! How fortunate I am to have my own curling commentator with me...."that was a sweeping error. You can't be making those errors at this level of competition!" Yes, that would be my husband! :-) I have no idea how Iain keeps an eye on all four games at once!

We walked back to our B&B (we are doing alot of walking) before heading out to the restaurant 'Burgoo' for red wine and delicious comfort food both food and drink warming our insides!

The atmosphere inside Canada Hockey Place, for the Finland Germany hockey game was amazing and so loud with chanting, singing etc. I can't even imagine what it is like when Canada is playing! After the end of the second period, with Finland leading 3-0, jet lag caught up with us and we left for home and our beds.

Iain and I started today back at the curling venue cheering on the Scotsman of GB over China. The other game of particular interest was US vs Sweden. Some of those American fans are not in tune with curling edicate :-) so Canadian fans were definitely cheering for Sweden!
After enjoying our neighborhood, in the sunshine and holding the Olympic torch,at LuLulemon(one of their employees was a torch bearer) we rested up for dinner, with Jamie and Karen, at the wonderful Italian restaurant 'Il Giardini' (lots of good wine again)! We then headed to the Germany Belarus hockey game and what an exciting game it was! Once again the building was so loud with cheering and chanting for Gemany and Belarus - amazing!

Definitely ready for our bed when we got home!
