Men's Semi Final Hockey Game - USA vs Finland - Colin, Iain and Sue
Much to our chagrin, the US manhandles the Finns in the first period
Final score - 6-1
Men's and Women's Speed Skating Team Pursuit Qualifying - Jamie and Karen
Richmond Oval - first time at this venue.
After our events were complete, we headed downtown to camp out at 'Moxies' for what ended up being 6 hours! Lots of food and drink....and more drinks and food...lots of cheering with other patrons and sweat and frazzled nerves...we saw Cheryl Bernard and her curling team take silver in Women's Curling and the Canadian Men's Hockey Team eek out a victory over the Slovaks 3-2 (they were leading 3-0 at one point) to advance to the Gold Medal Game.
While we were happy for Cheryl's Silver we were also extremely disappointed for her as she missed her last shot in the 10th end (Sweden score 2 to tie) and her last shot in the extra end (Sweden steals 1 to win) - very routine shots for her normally, but then again, the Olympic games are not 'routine'!
Canada's Men will have to play better against the US.
On our way home, we walked amongst the dense cheering, 'high-fiving' crowds, up Robson Street, to see the flame for the first time and take lots of photos - beautiful at night. All week, we have heard the frequent spontaneous singing of our National Anthem, and on this night, it was happening everywhere we walked! So proud to be a Canadian and that Canadian pride has been so evident all week and a thrill to witness and be a part of!
Two Gold Medals and a bronze in Men's Short Track on this night too!
